What Is Messianic Judaism?
First, its important to understand the meaning of the words being used. What is a Messianic Jew? The Wikipedia defines it as: Messianic Judaism is a syncretic religious movement that arose in the 1960s and 70s. It blends evangelical Christian theology with elements of Jewish terminology and ritual.Messianic Judaism states that Jesus is the Jewish Messiah and "God the Son" (one person of the Trinity), and that salvation is only achieved through acceptance of Jesus as one's savior. AnyJewish laws or customs that are followed are cultural and do not contribute to attaining salvation. Belief in the messiahship and divinity of Jesus, which Messianic Judaism shares, is viewed by many Christian denominations and Jewish religious movements as being a defining distinction between Christianity and Judaism
By this definition one would have to say that Messianic Judaism is the bastardized offspring of Jewish and Christian ignorance. It is my understanding that Messianic Judaism is the brainchild of the Baptists, who believed that the Second Coming could not come about, until the Jews were converted to believers in Jesus. The problem is that the Church which arose out of the fourth century was the embodiment of Gentile Paganism, and never at all understood the original teachings of TheWay. The mainstream of Jews that engaged in animal sacrifice and ritual observance, was little more than a different variety of paganism, and also failed to understand the original teachings of TheWay which were and are representative of a purely Spiritual Religious Process that Transforms the individual who is portrayed as the lost prodigal son, and enables him to return to the Kingdom -- but even this is elementary and allegorical.
Many of the failings of the various forms of Messianic Judaism can be explored and researched at http://brotherofyeshua.com/Netzarim.htm . And these failings go to the core of the spiritually disenfranchised mind that alienated them from the true meaning of their own scriptures, because they threw away what Yeshua/Jesus portrayed as the Key of Knowledge. While the inner core of the pre-Nicene Church understood the proper application of the Key of Knowledge with respect to the true meaning of the scriptures, this inner core of Spiritual Christians were hunted down and murdered because of their refusal to embrace the religion of the Emperor of Rome. Among those who were hunted down was the Ebionite Nazirenes ( http://Ebionite.com & http://Nazirene.org ), which was representative of what could be portrayed as Spiritual Judaism -- which left a void in that only carnal, spiritually disenfranchised Judaism survived. And while Islam was intended to heal the great division, it too very quickly became corrupted and no longer able to fulfill its original intended purpose.
The Jewish word Messiah, and the Greek word Christ, in English mean the Anointing or Anointed -- and is representative of a Condition of Mind and Being. The answer to the Jewish, Christian and Messianic dilemma is found in the above noted link at at http://brotherofyeshua.com/Netzarim.htm , of which the below is quoted from:
In addition to many of the ancient texts noted in the Revised Standard Version, it can be demonstrated using the writings of the Anti-Nicene Church Fathers, that the words spoken to Jesus at his baptism in the Jordan was "Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee" (see http://TheTenWords.com ). This fact is further attested to at Acts 13:33, and Heb 1:5. And this is why Jesus is referred to by Paul as “the first-born among many brethren” (Rom 8:29). What this confirms is the fact that Jesus became the Messiah/Christ and adopted Son of God for the first time, at his baptism in the Jordan. But since few modern Christians understand the difference between the man Jesus, and the indwelling Logos/Son of God -- who was often portrayed as the Teacher of Righteousness and True Prophet -- and the vast majority of Christians worship their brother Jesus as God, instead of imitating him and living the Consecrated Life -- then the vast majority of the congregation of believers remain infantile in their understanding -- i.e., quoting http://DivineManna.org#literal: “And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual men, but as to men of flesh, as to babes in Christ” (1 Cor 3:1 NAS). Thus, these believers could only be taught the most basic doctrine of Jesus Christ and him crucified (1 Cor 2:2), because they were not yet spiritual men -- but rather, they were men of flesh and still very much “babes in Christ”. Paul then explains that:“I gave you milk to drink, not solid food; for you were not yet able to receive it. Indeed, even now you are not yet able” (1 Cor 3:2 NAS).
With respect to the true words spoken to Jesus at his baptism: "Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee" -- this is why the original disciples of Jesus who were known as Ebionites of the Nazirene Vow, understood that (quoting Hippolytus) Jesus "...was justified by fulfilling the Law. He was the Christ of God, since not one of the rest of mankind had observed the Law completely. Had any one else fulfilled the commandments of the Law, he would have been the Christ." Hence, when a disciple of TheWay who picks up their own cross "...thus fulfills the law, they are able to become Christs, for they assert that our Lord Himself was a man in like sense with all humanity." (Hippolytus, Refut. Omn. Haer. vii. 34). And this is why they asserted that Jesus was in “...supernatural union of a man and God... In their eyes, Jesus of Nazareth was a mere mortal, the legitimate son of Joseph and Mary: but he was the best and wisest of the human race, selected as the worthy instrument to restore upon earth the worship of the true and supreme Deity. When he was baptized in the Jordan, the Christ, the first of the aeons, the Son of God himself, descended on Jesus in the form of a dove, to inhabit his mind, and direct his actions during the allotted period of his ministry”(Gibbon; The Decline & Fall of the Roman Empire, V.4, P.366).
All of us are equally the lost prodigal sons of our Heavenly Father -- some of us who have squandered away our divine inheritance dwell in what Jesus portrayed as The Prison (http://DivineStrategery.com#ThePrison ) -- others dwell in what Jesus portrayed as the "outer darkness" ( http://DivineStrategery.com#OuterDarkness ) of mind and being -- and these lost prodigal sons are oblivious to the Kingdom within ( http://GateOfEden.com ). When Gibbon writes of the original positions of the Ebionite Nazirene disciples that Jesus became one with "...the first of the aeons, the Son of God himself, descended on Jesus in the form of a dove, to inhabit his mind, and direct his actions during the allotted period of his ministry” -- the Apostle Peter in the Homilies of his disciple Clement portrays the indwelling Logos/Son of God as the True Prophet, and explains: "And therefore I advise not only wise men, but indeed all men who have a desire of knowing what is advantageous to them, that they seek after the true Prophet; for it is He alone who knoweth all things, and who knoweth what and how every man is seeking. For He is within the mind of every one of us, but in those who have no desire of the knowledge of God and His righteousness, He is inoperative; but He works in those who seek after that which is profitable to their souls, and kindles in them the light of knowledge. Wherefore seek Him first of all; and if you do not find Him, expect not that you shall learn anything from any other. But He is soon found by those who diligently seek Him through love of the truth, and whose souls are not taken possession of by wickedness. For He is present with those who desire Him in the innocence of their spirits, who bear patiently, and draw sighs from the bottom of their hearts through love of the truth; but He deserts malevolent minds, because as a prophet He knows the thoughts of every one. And therefore let no one think that he can find Him by his own wisdom, unless, as we have said, he empty his mind of all wickedness, and conceive a pure and faithful desire to know Him. For when any one has so prepared himself, He Himself as a prophet, seeing a mind prepared for Him, of His own accord offers Himself to his knowledge”.
To even suppose that Jesus did not have countless conversations about God -- his relationship to God -- the meaning of the term Anointed (Messiah in Hebrew, Christ in Greek) -- and to conclude that his disciples who were to be a witness to these spiritual truths and the Inner Kingdom that he taught -- were ignorant of the Truth -- is the folly of the modern believers. Disciples such as Peter who is quoted in the Homilies of Clement in the above words, understood the difference between the historical man Jesus, and the indwelling Logos/Son of God who was portrayed as The True Prophet, because the historical Jesus taught his disciples how to seek and find the Indwelling Logos. That Jesus himself was the first of the prodigal sons who became One with the Indwelling Logos, represents an essential teaching in order to bring the Gospel Spiritual Objectives about in the life of the believer. And the position of the Church that with the exception of Paul, the disciples were too Jewish to understand the teachings of Jesus -- with the additional claim that the heathen Gentiles who worshiped virtually everything under the sun could understand what the disciples who knew Jesus, and lived with him over the course of years -- to even accept this folly as having any validity whatsoever, is spiritual suicide -- and it is this mindset and thinking that has spiritually flat-lined the modern believer today.
That the man Jesus became One with the Indwelling Logos -- a word which is defined as the Mind of God or the Living Word -- and that it was God speaking through and doing the works through the man Jesus, is the reason it was written: "Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself..." (John 5:19 KJV). And this is why Peter witnessed that Jesus was a man who was approved by God -- i.e., "Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst..." (Acts 2:22 NKJ). And this is why Jesus himself taught that he is our brother -- i.e., "...go to My brethren and say to them, 'I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God'" (John 20:17 NKJ). Making reference to himself as being a prophet -- i.;e., "Nevertheless I must journey today, tomorrow, and the day following; for it cannot be that a prophet should perish outside of Jerusalem" (Luke 13:33 NKJ).
That as the lost prodigal sons, each of us has the ability to learn from -- and become One with the indwelling Logos/Son of God or True Prophet -- was the essence of the original New Covenant Teachings that the Church of Rome corrupted, and that modern Christians do not understand. Most of the lost prodigal sons dwell either in The Prison, or the "outer darkness" that Jesus warned about, and because they do not become the "good ground" in the parable of the Sower and the Seed, they remain divided by the doctrines of men, and cannot be taught directly by the True Prophet. Paul portrayed Jesus as “the first-born among many brethren”, because all who pick up their own cross and follow in TheWay, find the inner "narrow gate" opening within them (see http://GateOfEden.com ), where they begin to fulfill the Gospel objective of learning directly from the indwelling Logos/Son of God that Peter portrays as the True Prophet.
